Surfing is a water sport in which the surfer rides a surfboard on the crest and face of a wave which is carrying the surfer towards the shore.
CULTURAL COMPONENTS:
- beach break: an area where waves that are good enough to surf break just off a beach or a sandbar
- bomb: an exceptionally large set wave
- face: The forward-facing surface of a breaking wave
- Point break: area where an underwater rocky point creates waves that are suitable for surfing
- Shoulder: the unbroken part of the wave
- Surf's up: a phrase used when there are waves worth surfing
